Rainbow Galaxy Unicorn Birthday Cake

Image
This cake was for my daughter's birthday party. She wanted to invite a bunch of friends to the park to play for a few hours and wanted a two-tiered cake for the occasion. The bottom tier was 7 inch funfetti cake filled and frosted with white chocolate ganache. I also filled the cake with sprinkles. While the crumb coat is setting up, I stacked the top tier. I stacked the 5 inch red velvet cake on a piece of cardboard covered in tin foil. I filled and frosted the cake with white chocolate ganache. Then I frosted both tiers again to get a nice, smooth coat. I covered the bottom tier with blue fondant. And the top tier with black fondant. My concept was looking up through the sky to space beyond. I added some dowels to the bottom tier to support the top tier. Then I stacked the tiers. But I had to repair a tear in the black fondant. Then I mixed some pink, purple, blue and teal food coloring with clear alcohol and a bit of white food coloring to keep the color from being too transpar

Rainbow Unicorn Birthday Cake

This year, my daughter wanted a rainbow unicorn cake for her birthday. This is what I came up with. She wanted red velvet cake, so I made a 5-inch red velvet cake. Three layers and filled and frosted it with white chocolate ganache. Then covered the cake with blue fondant. I also had all the colors of the rainbow ready to go. I rolled out some white fondant. Cut out my daughter's name out of rainbow colored fondant. I cut out the name in a cloud shape and placed it on the side of the cake. And her age on top. Then I modeled a simple unicorn out of white fondant. The horn was fondant covering a toothpick. Then, one color at a time, I rolled the colors into snakes and placed them on the back of the cake and rolled smaller snakes onto the head and tail of the unicorn. And continued until I had used all the colors of the rainbow. I placed a cloud-shaped white fondant onto the base of the rainbow. And I made a bunch of ribbon roses out of several of the rainbow colors and painted on a

Elena of Avalor Cake

This was a viewer request. I asked for requests when I hit 5000 subscribers on YouTube, and the only real request was an Elena of Avalor cake. If you're not familiar with Elena of Avalor, this is her: It's a children's series from Disney for kids preschool to early school age kids. It's really sweet. First, I made some burgundy fondant by mixing red fondant with purple and red food coloring. Then I stacked a 6-inch and 4-inch cake dummy frosted. I am going to cover it with fondant already stacked, which is not what I usually do. I started out covering the top tier. I left a small lip along the bottom. Then I covered a smooth spot on the front of the bottom tier. I covered the skirt part of the cake with some folds in it and I made some folds back and forth along the join between the skirt and the flat part to make the ruffles on Elena's dress. Then I covered the last gap with a pink sash. And I added a pink bow on one side. I covered the top of the cake with a stri
