Easter Bunny Cake

Image
Ages ago, someone requested I make a rabbit cake. I'm finally getting around to it, months later. But this one turned out more like an Easter bunny, so I'm just going to own it. I started out by frosting a 4-inch cake dummy with vegan American buttercream. I covered the cake with light green fondant. I smoothed it on and trimmed off the excess. Then I made some round discs with white fondant and pressed them on the side of the cake to be the bunny's feet. And I pressed in some toe dents. Then I made a couple bunny ears with white and pink and placed a ball of white fondant on top of the cake to be the head. I placed the ears on the head and placed two paws in front of the bunny head and pressed in toe dents. I pressed in some eye holes and put a pink nose on as well as pink on the feet pads. I placed some black in the eye holes and a thin black mouth. Then I made some leaf shapes with some pink and grouped them in threes with one in back and two next to each other in front...

Dress up a Sheet Cake: Easter Bunny Butt Cake.

Image
This is a fun one for Easter. As always, I start out with a frosted sheet cake.  And I colored my buttercream lots of different colors: red, two shades of pink, brown, green and yellow. I also left some white.  I'm using these three Russian piping tips today.  I put brown buttercream in a piping bag with a star tip, green with a grass tip, dark pink with a small round tip, the three Russian piping tips I put in bags with combinations of the pinks and yellow, and white buttercream with a medium round tip.  I wrote Happy Easter on the cake with a skewer.  And I piped over it with dark pink.  I piped a few nests around the cake with the brown buttercream.  Then I piped some bunny butts with white buttercream. I piped a big blob and sprinkles some coconut over it. Then I piped a dot on the top to be the tail and two long lines on the side to be the feet.  Then I added toes and a heel with the pink.  I think they'...

Dress up a Sheet Cake: Basket of Spring Flowers

Image
This time in dressing up a sheet cake, I'm going to attempt some buttercream flowers. This is not my greatest strength, so if I can do this, anyone can. As always, we start with a frosted square or rectangular cake.  I colored my buttercream beforehand. Today I'm using pink (colored with pink food coloring), green (colored with green and blue food coloring), purple (colored with purple and pink food coloring), yellow (colored with yellow food coloring) and brown (colored with baker's cocoa).  I'm using several different tips today. And I'm not sure how to describe each of them, but I'll do my best. The first one on the left is a medium sized petal tip. The one to the right of it is curved on one side and has teeth on the opposite side. The one to the right of it is a small leaf tip. The one the furtherst to the right is a five-pointed closed star tip. The one at the top of the frame in a piping bag is a small basketweave tip. And the one at the front of ...
