Tutorial: How to make Hawaiian flowers

Image
Okay, these aren't really Hawaiian flowers, but they remind me of Hawaii somehow. And since these aren't really meant to be a specific flower, I'll call them Hawaiian flowers. I started out cutting out some simple five petalled flowers. I used a dresden tool to make some lines and texture in the petals. Then I placed one of the flowers on top of the other. I pinched the petals in waves to give it some texture. I placed it on a paper towel to dry. I made several. I also made some pink and light blue, but only pink is pictured. These are for a wedding cake. To follow. Baptism Cake with pink flowers

Image
This cake was for a friend of my kids. She just turned 8 and is getting baptized. I made a 7-inch vanilla cake and filled and frosted it with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. While the cake was chilling, I made the figure for the top. I made a cone of white fondant and cut off the top. I added a head and neck on a toothpick. I added the arms. And blond hair. And I added a small bouquet of tiny ribbon roses. Back to cake. I covered it in white fondant. I put the figure on the cake and used a fondant press form to make the name Naomi and placed it on the cake. I rolled out some pink fondant and cut out some flowers. I also used a ball tool on one of them and thinned out the petals. I started placing them around the cake. I kept placing them until I was happy with it. I also painted on a face on the figure with brown food coloring. I think this cake turned out lovely. It was just what I wanted to make for 8-year-old Naomi. Congratulations on your baptism, Naomi. Unicorn Cake with Rainbow Butterfly Mane

Image
This cake is for my daughter's seventh birthday. She helped design the cake. I baked an 8-inch rainbow vanilla cake. I filled and frosted the cake with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. I covered the cake with white fondant. I made a unicorn horn out of white fondant onto a wooden skewer. And placed it in the middle of the cake. I made the eyes and eyelashes out of gray fondant and placed it on the side of the cake. And placed a gray log around the bottom of the cake. The I cut out a whole bunch of butterflies out of rainbow colored fondant beginning with red and orange. I continued placing rainbow butterflies on the man until it was completely filled up. I'm really happy with this cake. I think it's really sweet and colorful. My daughter loved it, which is what is most important. Happy Birthday, Natalie.
