Heart Cupcakes

Image
These cupcakes were to celebrate my daughter's summer birthday months after the fact in her class. She asked for heart-shaped piping on regular chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles. I started out making chocolate cupcakes. I also made some vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream and colored it pink. Then I piped it in a heart shape and added a star in the middle. Then I sprinkled them with unicorn sprinkles. These turned out really pretty. Happy birthday, Sabrina. Hearts Themed Cupcakes

These cupcakes were for my daughter's kindergarten to celebrate her sixth birthday. I started out by making 2 dozen strawberry cupcakes and colored some Swiss meringue buttercream purple, blue and pink and put them in piping bags with open star tips. I piped rosettes on the strawberry cupcakes. Then I rolled out some fondant in purple, pink, white and blue and cut out a bunch of hearts of each color. And I placed them on the cupcakes in small groups. My daughter was very happy. Happy birthday, Natalie. Cupcake Bouquet

Cupcake bouquets are gorgeous and delicious. They're perfect for certain holidays like Valentine's Day and Mother's Day and Weddings. But birthdays are also great. Then I colored some buttercream green, pink and burgundy. Burgundy is made with purple and red food coloring. This is Italian meringue buttercream. I put each color in two piping bags. The white, burgundy and pink with a large open star and a petal tip. The green with two different sizes of leaf tips. The cupcakes are vegan chocolate cupcakes. Here I'll show a few options that I made. There are lots of variations, though. This is a rosette with a large open star tip. I had a few air bubbles in the burgundy that made these funny breaks in the rosettes. Then I added some leaves around the side. Then, with a petal tip, I piped a base around the edges, then piped petals on top of that and a round in the middle. I added some leaves. And a few sugar pearls in the middle from a Christmas sprinkles medley. This one ...

Cupcake Decorating Basics

Sometimes you just want to make a few cupcakes and decorate them beautifully. But if you've never decorated cupcakes before, it might feel a bit overwhelming to figure out how to do it. Start out with cupcakes. Any kind you like, any size and any amount you would like to make. I am using these four piping tips. The one on the top left is probably the most popular piping tip ever. A Wilton 1M tip. You can also use any large open star tip. The one on the top right is a medium closed star tip. That's the difference between an open and closed star tip. They have very different looks. The bottom left tip is a medium open star with lots of teeth. And the bottom right tip is a large round tip. I put my buttercream in the piping bags. This is actually peanut butter frosting, but you can use any pipable buttercream. There are lots of options. We'll start with the Wilton 1M or large open star. I pipe a star in the middle of the cupcake. And then pipe a swirl moving up onto the cupca...
