Two-tiered LOL Surprise Birthday Cake

Image
This cake was basically designed by my 8-year-old. She told me exactly what she wanted for her birthday party. The bottom tier is 6-inch chocolate cake filled and frosted with white chocolate ganache. Then I cut a circle of cardboard about 4 inches in diameter and covered it with tin foil. I stacked and frosted a 4-inch red velvet cake with white chocolate ganache. Then I covered the top tier in turquoise fondant. And the bottom tier in pink fondant. I placed dowels into the bottom tier in this triangular formation. Then I stacked the tiers. The dowels may not have been necessary since this cake is so small, but I wanted to add them just to increase stability. Then I cut some pink fondant into strips. And, using the measurement marks on my silicone mat, I made diagonal cuts at regular intervals. Then I created a zig-zag on the side of the top tier with the diagonal strips. All the way around the cake. And I cut out some polka dots with a round piping tip and placed them on the top...

Simple Ganache LOL Surprise Cake

Image
This cake was for my own daughter's birthday cake for our family party. This is a 6-inch red velvet cake frosted with white chocolate ganache. I also colored some of the ganache with gel food coloring white it was still liquid. I colored some teal and piped a pearl border along the bottom of the cake. Then I piped some polka dots on the side of the cake. I also colored some pink, which was a bit warm because of the natural yellow of the chocolate. I piped it in swirls along the edge of the cake. The rest of the cake was just placing the 8 candle and laying a doll onto the cake. If you're curious, this is Center Stage. This was exactly what my daughter wanted. She was so happy with the cake. Happy 8th Birthday, Sabrina! She had a few very specific ideas on what she wanted. She wanted an LOL Surprise! Themed cake. She also wanted it to be surrounded in a purple sugar sheet with some gold on it and with a blue white chocolate drip. She initially wanted me to model three LOL Surprise! figures, but we unfortunately ran out of time. In the end, she had to be satisfied with one. So, I did my best to model Queen Bee. I started out with some light brown fondant that I added more brown food coloring to as well as a touch of black to darken it. Much better. Then I added some tylo powder to the brown fondant to stiffen it since I knew I would be modeling figures with it. Then I took a small piece of the fondant and added even more brown to it to make it just a bit darker. I noticed that Queen Bee's face was a shade darker than her body. Perfect. Then ...
