Elegant Single Rose Cake

Image
This cake wasn't for a specific occasion, but I love the elegant simplicity of a single rose. I started out frosting an 8-inch cake dummy with vegan American buttercream.  And I carefully covered it with white fondant. This is a very simple design, so I won't be able to hide any imperfections. I cut out a whole bunch of circles out of dark red fondant. And I made a rose out of them. Once I was happy with the rose, I placed it on the cake. And I cut out a star-shaped leaf out of green fondant. And placed it as the base of the rose. I cut out a few green leaves. And I formed a stem and placed the leaves on it. Finally, I placed a few thorns on the stem. I love the simple elegance of this cake. It's very romantic. Perfect for an anniversary or engagement.  These cookie bars are really easy to make and are a great treat. Magic Cookie Bars: 2 1/2 cups (200g) graham cracker crumbs 1/2 cup (125g) melted butter 1 can (497g) sweetened condensed milk 2 cups (340g) chocolate chips 1 1/3 cup (130g) shredded coconut 1 cup (85g) chopped nuts Combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter and press into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.  Pour sweetened condensed milk over the crust.  Sprinkle chocolate chips, coconut and nuts on top and press down slightly.  Bake at 350°F or 180°C for about 25 minutes or until coconut begins to brown. These are very simple and just taste amazing. Butterfly Cake

Image
This is a lovely, delicate butterfly cake. I frosted a 6-inch cake dummy with vegan American buttercream. I had also printed out this picture of an artistic rendering of a butterfly. I traced around the picture and added lines inside the wings. I cut it out of light blue fondant. I laid it on the cake and added a black body with antennae. Then I cut out some small butterflies out of light blue. As well as pink and purple. I placed the butterflies around the side of the cake. I painted the large butterfly wings with black food coloring as well as the bodies of the small butterflies on the side. I love how delicate and lovely this butterfly cake looks. Whimsical and lovely. Bread Baking: Homemade Glazed Doughnuts

Image
This is a family recipe that my dad used to make for us when I was young. Homemade Doughnuts: 1 tbsp dry yeast 1/4 cup (60mL) warm water 1/3 cup (70g) sugar 1 cup (225mL) hot milk 2 tbsp shortening (vegetable fat) 1/2 cup (125g) mashed potatoes (yes, really) 1 egg 1 1/2 tsp salt 4-5 cups (500-625g) flour Glaze: powdered sugar milk Combine yeast, warm water and a tablespoon of sugar.  Thanks to my little helper. Stir the shortening into the hot milk until the shortening is melted.  Stir the milk, mashed potatoes, egg, salt and yeast mixture together in a large mixing bowl.  Add flour slowly. Stir until you can't anymore and knead more flour into the dough until it's no longer sticky.  Cover and allow to rise at least an hour. Roll out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch. Use two circle cutters to make doughnut shapes.  Allow doughnuts to rise another half an hour. Heat about half a liter (2 cups) of oil in a pot (I used setting 7 out of 9). Carefully place the doughnuts into
