Simple Ganache LOL Surprise Cake

Image
This cake was for my own daughter's birthday cake for our family party. This is a 6-inch red velvet cake frosted with white chocolate ganache. I also colored some of the ganache with gel food coloring white it was still liquid. I colored some teal and piped a pearl border along the bottom of the cake. Then I piped some polka dots on the side of the cake. I also colored some pink, which was a bit warm because of the natural yellow of the chocolate. I piped it in swirls along the edge of the cake. The rest of the cake was just placing the 8 candle and laying a doll onto the cake. If you're curious, this is Center Stage. This was exactly what my daughter wanted. She was so happy with the cake. Happy 8th Birthday, Sabrina! Tutorial: How to Make a Simple Elsa Figure

Image
Continuing from our last tutorial, we're making an equally simple Elsa figurine to top a cake. I started out with some light blue fondant and added tylo powder to it to stiffen it. Do not forget this step, or it won't end well. Roll the body with a thinner portion in the middle where the waist is. Cut the top and bottom flat. Add a piece of flesh-colored fondant to the shoulders and a piece for the neck. Don't forget the toothpick in the center for stability. Roll some arms with blue fondant and glue them onto the shoulders and at the hips. Then cut some mitten-shaped hands out of flesh-colored fondant. Then I added a ball of flesh-colored fondant for the head and add it to the toothpick. I covered the back of the head with light yellow fondant. Then I made a small braid out of the same light yellow fondant. I glued the braid over one shoulder and rolled a few small snakes of fondant to indicate hair motion toward the back of the head. I also painted on a simple face. Two ...

Simple Hanukkah Cake

Image
This is another nod to my very close Jewish friend, Rachel. It's that time of year. Hanukkah! So, if you don't know, as I didn't, Hanukkah originated in the Maccabbean rebellion when at one point the Maccabbeans were holed up in the Temple and could not escape. They only had enough oil for one day, but miraculously, the lamps remained lighted for a total of eight days. In the end, the Jews were able to keep their temple, which was also a miracle. So, Jews celebrate these miracles with eight days of small gifts, money and candles.  So, let's get to the cake. I started out with pumpkin spice cake. I also made some cream cheese frosting. Since I recently discovered I am lactose intolerant just like my daughter, this was made with goat cream cheese. Tasted great! I highly recommend it. I filled the cake. And frosted it with the goat cream cheese frosting. Then I cut some lengths of wooden dowel. And I covered them with pale blue fondant. These are the candles. But candles,...

Candy Cane Christmas Cake

Image
This cake was to use up some leftovers I had in the freezer. And I wanted a simple, Christmas design. So, I started with banana cake and Swiss meringue buttercream and stacked it.  Then I frosted it with Swiss meringue buttercream.  And I covered the cake with white fondant.  Then I rolled some red and white fondant into snakes and twisted them together.  I made one rather short length and a nice long length.  I wrapped the long one around the bottom of the cake.  Then I bent the shorter length into the form of a candy cane.  So simple, yet so Christmasy.  And this cake really didn't take much time at all.  Merry Christmas!
