Recipe: Vegan American Buttercream

Being very conscious of intolerances and special diets, I decided it was time to show everyone how I make my vegan American buttercream.

Vegan American Buttercream:
1 cup (250g) vegetable shortening (you can also use vegan margarine)
8 cups (1000g) powdered sugar
ca. 1/4 cup water or liquid of choice
2 tsp flavoring of choice (vanilla extract, almond extract, lemon extract, etc.)
 First, cream the shortening.
Then add the first box (2 cups or 250g) of powdered sugar.
Thin it down with water to get it to the right consistency. Now would also be the best time to add your flavoring.
Now the next box of powdered sugar. Keep adding the powdered sugar one box at a time and add the water a tablespoon or two at a time to thin it down whenever it gets too thick. Add more powdered sugar if it gets too thin.

In the end, it should look like this. White and gorgeous. This recipe works really well for wedding cakes because it is so white. And it tastes basically exactly like the cream in an oreo cookie.
