Sprinkles Fault Line Cake

Image
This was a cake trend from several years ago, and I made one similar to this one then. But I remembered it being really fun, so I decided to make another one. I got some gold and black sprinkles. And I frosted a 6-inch cake dummy with vegan American buttercream. I pressed gold sprinkles on the side and black sprinkles on top. I put some vegan American buttercream in two piping bags. One without a tip and one with a medium star tip. I piped some buttercream on top and bottom of the side of the cake. And carefully smoothed it on to the side, leaving the middle open. Then I piped a simple shell border along the bottom and a rope border along the edge of the cake. But I think this cake is super cute. Sprinkles everywhere and gorgeous piping on top. It's the kind of cake that makes people ask how you did that. Recipe: Cherry Cake

Image
This is a great base cherry-flavored cake to use under fondant or in any carved or decorated cake. Cherry Cake: 1/3 cup (80g) butter 2/3 cup (150mL) oil 1 cup (200g) sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1 tbsp baking powder 3 cups (375g) flour 1 cup (250g) cherry jam 6 egg whites Cream butter. Beat in oil, sugar, vanilla, salt and baking powder.  Add flour a third at a time, alternating with the jam about half at a time until all flour and jam is combined.  In a separate bowl, beat egg whites to stiff peaks.  Fold egg whites into batter. Bake at 300°F or 160°C for 40-60 minutes, depending on the size of the pan. Birdhouse Birthday Cake

Image
This cake was for my own birthday. My 6-year-old suggested making a birdhouse cake. So, I baked three layers of cherry cake. This is a 7-inch round cake and two layers of 6-inch square cake. I carved them into a house shape. I filled the cake with chocolate ganache and cherries. And I frosted the cake with ganache. I chilled the cake for a few minutes and while the cake was chilling, I modelled two yellow songbirds. Then I frosted the cake again and cleaned up the cake board. Then I rolled out some brown fondant and pressed a wood texture mat onto it. And I laid it over the cake. I panelled the sides and roof and placed a few logs of brown to support the roof. And I placed a circle cutter onto the birdhouse. And I cut out a circle of it. I filled the circle with ganache and placed brown fondant onto a stick and pressed it into the cake. Then I placed the songbirds on the cake. I used a fondant pressmold and made a bunch of green leaves. And I wound a vine of green around the cake ...
