Dartboard Birthday Cake

Image
This cake was for a friend's son for his birthday. He had very exact ideas what he wanted his cake to look like. This is a 6-inch chocolate cake filled and frosted with chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream.  The birthday boy asked for three layers of cake. I covered it in white fondant. Then I rolled out some white fondant and cut it into a six-inch circle. I laid a printout of a dartboard onto the cake and using a modeling tool I pressed in the lines from the printout. I placed the ring of black on the cake. I rolled out a thin log of red fondant and placed it in lengths on the meeting point of black and black on the edge of the dartboard. I also placed a ring of red onto the black wedges halfway between the center and the edge. Traditionally, dartboards are red and green on the black and ...

Recipe: Swiss Cheese Cake (no-bake cheesecake)

This was a specific request from one of my viewers for his birthday, so happy birthday, Byron! But this cake is an optical illusion. It is a no-bake cheesecake that looks like a wheel of Swiss cheese. Swiss Cheese Cake: 1 1/2 tbsp unflavored gelatin 1 1/4 cups (300g) full fat cream cheese 1 1/2 cups (300g) plain yoghurt 1/2 cup (100g) sugar 1 1/3 cups (300mL) heavy cream 1 tbsp lemon juice yellow food coloring (optional) 5 tbsp water Dissolve gelatin in water. Heat in microwave until dissolved. Set aside to bloom at least 5 minutes.  With a mixer, combine cream cheese and yoghurt.  Slowly beat in sugar.  Add lemon juice and heavy cream. Beat until combined and fluffy.  Add food coloring and gelatin and beat well.  Pour batter into 6-7 inch springform pan, smoothing it out on top.  Wrap in plastic wrap and allow to set overnight.  When cheesecake has set up, take out of refrigerator and remove springform.  Soak a melon baller in hot water and...
