Dartboard Birthday Cake
This cake was for a friend's son for his birthday. He had very exact ideas what he wanted his cake to look like.
This is a 6-inch chocolate cake filled and frosted with chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream.
I covered it in white fondant. Then I rolled out some white fondant and cut it into a six-inch circle. I laid a printout of a dartboard onto the cake and using a modeling tool I pressed in the lines from the printout. And I cut it along the lines. And I did the same thing with black.
I placed the wedges alternating black and white on the cake. Then I cut out a circle of black fondant about an inch wide.I placed the ring of black on the cake.I rolled out a thin log of red fondant and placed it in lengths on the meeting point of black and black on the edge of the dartboard.I also placed a ring of red onto the black wedges halfway between the center and the edge.Traditionally, dartboards are red and green on the black and white. But the birthday boy specifically asked for it to be red and blue. So, I rolled out a thin log of blue fondant and filled in the gaps between the red.
I had these little numbers from a set and used them to press them into the black ring around the outside edge of the dartboard.
But it was really difficult to see them, so I painted them with white food coloring.I then cut out the words "Liam hat heute Geburtstag" (Liam has a birthday today). I cut them out of red and blue to match the dartboard.I stuck them onto the side of the cake.
The birthday boy also specifically asked for a blue crown. So, I cut out a blue crown with a red jewel and placed it on the side of the cake.
I also used a fondant press mold to make a whole bunch of balloons out of red, blue, pastel green, yellow and pastel orange fondant.
I am really proud of this cake.I think it looks great and was just what the birthday boy requested.Happy birthday, Liam!
