Catch up on past projects
So, doing a separate post for every cake I've made in the past 6 months or so is a touch impractical, so here's a very fast overview.
This one I spent months thinking about. It was for my daughter's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse birthday party. This one was for the party with all her friends. She got to place the figurines.
And, when your child has a birthday, don't forget to make cupcakes to share with her friends in Kindergarten. The two without ears were for a child with food allergies.
This was the second birthday cake for my daughter's fourth birthday. For the more adult-oriented family party, yet still Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed, or at least Minnie Mouse. The bows are from a press form and probably one of the best investments I've ever made.
The American flag cake was for a 4th of July party. Incidentally, it takes ridiculous amounts of buttercream to pipe on decorations. There are lots of tutorials on how to make something like this, so I will bow to those with more experience. But yes, I know there's a Union Jack on the side of my American flag cake. It's a nod to the British hosts of the party.
The Fortuna Düsseldorf cake and soccer ball are from my husband's birthday party. He's a big fan of Fortuna Düsseldorf. The logo turned out not to be too hard to cut out using graduating sizes of a circle cutter. The mini sugar soccer balls were store bought. The soccer ball was made using a sphere pan with white hexagons and black pentagons cut out of fondant using a cutter set. The cake was chocolate with vanilla buttercream and strawberries inside.
This one was an overdue birthday cake for this little girl's Daddy. But she got to choose the decoration and she wanted a rainbow. I went with M&M's. Perfect to cover a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. More chocolate!
This was also a belated birthday cake for a friend of mine. It was vanilla cake with peanut butter buttercream. The decorations were a combination of fondant and sprinkles.
This was a cake we brought without being asked to a wedding near us. It was chocolate cake covered in peanut butter buttercream.
This one I made together with the mother of the birthday girl. It was butterfly themed and had graduating colors. The top and bottom layers were chocolate and the center layer was vanilla cake. The bottom layer had chocolate buttercream while the upper two had vanilla buttercream. The top layer was made in a butterfly shaped silicone cake pan.
This last one was for my sister-in-law's birthday. Chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream. Everyone loved it! Although my bow making still needs work.
Let's go chronologically. This was my first ever comission. It's chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream made for my friend's daughter's princess themed birthday party. The princess figurines were added afterwards, borrowed from another friend, but really adds life to what would otherwise be a fairly simple pink cake.
