Buttercream Sprinkles Cake

This cake was for a late season grill party. The cake is vegan chocolate cake and it is covered in buttercream and sprinkles. I wanted to show you how to cover a cake with sprinkles.

First, I filled the cake with buttercream. I baked them in two different pans, so they were slightly different sizes.
I frosted the cake with American buttercream as well.
Then, I pressed sprinkles into the cake by the handful.
Once it was completely covered in sprinkles,
I cleaned up the excess sprinkles off the cake board.
I love this look. It's particularly popular with children.
But it needed something. I decided to do some piping. I filled a piping bag with buttercream with a star tip.
I piped a shell border along the bottom of the cake.
 Then stars along the top.
And finally a cute swirl in the middle.
I sprinkled just a few more sprinkles onto the top piping.
This look is really easy to make and is appropriate for practically every occasion. Everyone loves sprinkles. Some people even call this look a birthday cake.
You can also call it funfetti, even though the cake inside is chocolate. Just the presence of this many sprinkles is sometimes called funfetti.
Sprinklicious.
Who doesn't love sprinkles?
