Gingerbread House Cake - Cake fail or cake save?

Last year, my daughter and I made gingerbread houses and we couldn't get them to stand up to save our lives. This year, we decided to make a gingerbread house cake.

We put a large recipe of ginger cake with raisins in a castle cake form. We also bought a number of lactose-free candies. I had some left over American buttercream that I put in a piping bag.

 I think this is the largest cake form I've ever owned. I baked the silicone pan on top of a cookie sheet to give it more stability.
 Unfortunately, between the slightly warm cake and the raisins in the batter, we lost the towers off the complicated form when turning it out.

 We leveled the cake and put it on a cake board covered in tin foil. Then we carefully removed the towers out of the form and stuck them back on the cake with a bit of buttercream.
 We got the towers out by turning the form inside out.
 Then we piped some buttercream onto the tops of the towers, the top of the walls, the roof of the gate, around the windows and around the bottom of the castle cake. The buttercream was quite thin and dripped a bit. Then we placed all sorts of different candies on the tops of the towers, on the tops of the walls, around the bottom and around the windows.
 It wasn't very neat and didn't look very clean. In the end, we more or less just threw candies on.
 You decide. Cake fail or cake save? A lot went wrong, but we had fun and made a fun memory, so I've decided to think of it as a cake save. We can laugh at the sticking cake and runny buttercream.
