Blue and White Baptism Cake - cake idea for a man
This cake was originally for a baptism of a man I didn't know very well. So, I needed a design that would work for just about any occasion. This is what I came up with.
I had made seven inch vegan chocolate cake layers and froze them. I had also made the cream cheese frosting ahead of time and kept it in the freezer. While I was waiting for them to thaw, I made some decorations. I decided to keep this cake down to two colors: white and dark blue.
I cut out letters and numbers for the name of the man getting baptized, Daniel, and the date of the baptism. I also cut out a number of simple flowers out of fondant. If I had two of the same flower, I only cut out two of each one. If I had three of the same flower, I cut out two of the largest and smallest cutter and four of the middle size.
Then I cut out exactly as many blue flowers as the white.
Then I stacked them on top of each other. White on blue and blue on white.
I filled and frosted my cake and covered the top with a more or less circular disc of blue fondant.
Then I rolled out a strip of white fondant and covered the sides of the cake and up onto the top to meet up with the blue
I must confess that I was worried about how it was looking at this point. I had a gap between the white and blue fondant that I filled with a roll of white fondant. And I filled in a gap at the bottom of the cake with a triangular piece of white fondant. Seams and wrinkles everywhere you look. The good news is that this design basically covers any problems in the fondant that you have. Watch this transformation!
First I placed the name and date of the baptism on the blue disc.
Then, I placed the blue and white and white and blue flowers over the seam of the blue disc. See any gaps and wrinkles? No? Me, neither.
What gaps?
I think this design is very beautiful, yet shockingly simple. The simplicity and clean lines makes it masculine to me despite the flowers.
Confession, I used one of the flowers on the side of the cake where the worst gap was. What seams?
Congratulations, Daniel, on the baptism!
