Dress up a Sheet Cake: Congratulations Balloon Cake
We are continuing our series of how to dress up a sheet cake.
I used some navy blue buttercream left over from another project.
But, as usual, I began with a frosted sheet cake.
Then, using only round piping tips, I put white, yellow and pink buttercream in piping tubes and fitted each of them with different sized piping tips. White was around size 8, yellow around a 4 or 5 and pink about a 12. I don't know exact sizes because my tips aren't labeled. Not pictured, I also filled a piping bag with navy blue buttercream with a size 2 piping tip.
I began with a squashed pearl border along the bottom of the cake with white buttercream.
Then, I piped little blobs around the top of the cake.
I touched the top of each blob with just a tap to keep the blobs from being peaks, and become more pearl-looking.
Then, I got out a script press tool with the word Congratulations on it.
I gently pressed it into the buttercream.
Then I piped the navy blue in a thin line over the top of the impression made.
Finally, I made blobs of pink in each corner, pulling downwards. And I made yellow blobs all around and pulled them toward the center to form a flower. Finally, I used the navy blue again to make balloon strings and the centers of the flowers.
This was super simple to make, but looks so fun!
I mean, who wouldn't be excited to receive something like this? Congratulations!
It's perfect for whatever occasion you might want to say Congratulations at. Graduation, new baby, engagement, anniversary. The list goes on.
