Anna Elsa Frozen 2 Birthday Cake
This cake was a commission from an acquaintance. I know both the father and the mother and their daughter, Romy, was turning three. They wanted to order her cake this year especially since they were expecting their second child within a few weeks and didn't want to bother making it themselves. Their theme for the birthday party was the movie Frozen. Romy loves both Anna and Elsa the best from the movie, so after getting some feedback on the overall cake design from the parents, we decided on a split color cake with one side Anna and the other side Elsa.
But there aren't that many icons that I could get away with that would allow me to skip the figures. Nope. There was just no two ways about it. I had to model the figures.
Now, figure modelling isn't really my strongest suit. But I thought maybe I could make something good enough for a three-year-old.
So, I started out with the heads. I rolled two balls of flesh-colored fondant to be the heads.
I gently pressed in eye sockets, pinched up the nose just a tiny bit and pressed in the mouths.
Then I added small balls of white to be the eyes.
I pressed on tiny strips of flesh-colored fondant to be the eyelids.
Then I added the pupils and a line of black above the eyes to be eyelashes.
Then I mixed just a tiny bit of yellow into white fondant.
I wrapped this color around the back of the head I chose to be Elsa.
Then I mixed yellow-orange with some red to get Anna's hair color, but I had to add quite a bit of brown as well to get the color.
I wrapped the red hair color around the back of the head I chose to be Anna.
I rolled some light blue fondant into a general cylinder form with a waist. And then I cut out the neckline.
I added some flesh-colored fondant to be the neck and placed a toothpick through the center.
Then I placed Elsa's head on it and added some arms and hands clasped together.
I did something similar with Anna, but she's wearing black instead with a higher neckline. I chose the iconic outfits from Frozen 2.
Then I mixed some purple fondant with a bit of red.
And rolled it out kind of thick.
And cut a square out to be Anna's cape.
Then I added Elsa's braid and more hair strands as well as eyebrows.
I added Anna's braids and bangs.
Then I painted some details with gold luster dust mixed with clear alcohol.
I also dusted Elsa with some light blue luster dust to give her a bit of shimmer. I set them aside to dry overnight.
The next day, I stacked and frosted the cake. This is chocolate chip cake and brown sugar Swiss meringue buttercream.
Then I mixed some light blue fondant.
And covered half the cake with it.
I event trimmed it to be a straight seam.
I mixed some purple, white and pink fondant, plus eventually some pink food coloring, to get Anna's signature purply-pink color.
I rolled it out and covered the rest of the cake with it.
Then I cut out the name Romy and the number 3 with Disney letter cutters.
I cut them out in white.
And carefully placed them on the cake.
Then, using a snowflake cutter, I cut out a whole bunch of white snowflakes.
I also covered Anna's side with green leaves as well as red and blue flowers of different shapes.
Then I placed the figures at the back of the cake. Anna was tilting slightly to one side, but I felt like it looked like she had her head on her sister's shoulder.
But I love the overall effect.
Romy had no trouble telling what characters were meant. She was very happy with her birthday cake.
And the mother was impressed with how good the cake tasted.
Happy Third Birthday, Romy!
