Zodiac Cake

This cake was part of an Instagram cake collab. #ZodiacCakeCollab2020 Look on Instagram under that hashtag to see all the wonderful creations of all the participants.

But don't hate me, because I was really tired of eating cake. So I made this cake on an 8-inch cake dummy. I frosted it with vegan American Buttercream.

Then I covered it with black fondant.
I rolled out some flesh-colored fondant and cut it into 12 fairly even pieces. I wanted the symbols to be about the same size.
And I pressed a line with the back of a knife to split it into 12 fairly even spaces.
Then I started freehand cutting the zodiac symbols. I started with Aries.
Then Taurus.
 Then Gemini.
 Then Cancer.
Then Leo.

Then Virgo.
 Then Libra.
 Then Scorpio.
 Then Sagittarius.
 Then Capricorn.
 Then Aquarius.
 Finally Pisces.
For the top, though, I wanted a symbol of my children's sun signs. My youngest daughter is a Capricorn. I know, Capricorn has a fish tail, but that was a little too much for me to model, so I just did the goat's head.
My oldest daughter is a Cancer. So, I modeled a crab.
I put the two toppers onto the cake.
Then I painted the toppers and the symbols on the side with gold luster dust. I also painted the lines between the symbols with white food coloring. I painted splotches and flicks of white food coloring to represent stars.
Finally, I painted some dry gold luster dust onto the figures to add some extra sparkle.
But how epic is this gorgeous zodiac cake?
I absolutely love it.
I think all the symbols on the sides are recognizable.
And my Capricorn and Cancer are well-represented as well.
What's your sun sign?
