Retro Thank You Farewell Cake

This cake came about because about a year ago I promised my girls' pediatrician that I would make them a cake when they came near retirement, since both the receptionist and the doctor were close to retirement. Then, we found a nice, new apartment and decided to move. I just didn't feel good about leaving without making a cake for my daughters' pediatrician. She had always been wonderful and great with the kids. The receptionist had literally been working there for decades and had helped countless children and parents, including myself. So, even though I should have been packing, I decided to take some time and just make them a cake.

Since I had free reign in the question of cake flavor, I made my favorite vegan chocolate cake and vanilla American buttercream. It was a bit crumbly because it was made the same day and hadn't been chilled.
I frosted the cake. I was originally going to make this a buttercream cake, but I got to this point and realized that I would have to make another batch of buttercream to pipe anything that would cover all the dark spots in the frosting, and I didn't have enough buttercream to do it. So, change of plans. Let's make a fondant covered cake.
I covered the cake in white fondant. Blank slate.
Then I used this retro alphabet press form to form the words "Alles Gute" (basically best wishes) and "Danke" (thank you).
I placed the words around the cake before I was ready to place them.
Then I placed Danke on the side of the cake.
And Alles Gute on the top.
Then I chose a color scheme of dark blue and lavender and used several small flower plunger cutters.

I alternated colors of the smallest flowers along the bottom of the cake.
Then I placed the rest of the flowers all over the cake.
Honestly? I love how it turned out. It wasn't at all what I had planned, but it turned out adorable.
Who wouldn't love getting this retro thank you and farewell.
Thank you, Dr. Jannessen and Frau Werner for all that you've done for us.
