Recipe: Homemade Cherry Pop Tarts

Can you find Pop Tarts in Germany? You can if Rewe has an American week or in the American section of a large supermarket. But they're pricy and they don't have much variety. It's time to learn to make them myself.

Homemade Pop Tarts:
2 cups (250g) flour
2/3 cup (185g) butter
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbsp sugar
about 1/4 cup (55mL) water
jam of your choice
royal icing (if desired)
sprinkles for decoration (if desired)

Combine flour, salt and sugar.

Cut in butter.

Sprinkle water in a bit at a time and toss with a fork.

Roll dough out on a floured surface.

Cut into squares (or rectangles).

Spoon jam on the middle of one square.

Add another on top. Pinch sides together.

Bake at 350°F or 180°C for 10-12 minutes. Allow to cool.

Spoon royal icing on top and add sprinkles. Allow icing to set.

These taste better than the ones you can buy. The crust is lovely and flaky. However, I wouldn't really recommend putting these in the toaster considering how much jam leaked out the sides in the oven.
