Recipe: Pound Cake

The idea of pound cake is from the idea of making a cake with a pound of butter, a pound of sugar and a pound of flour. While simple, keeping the ingredients at exactly this ratio isn't the best tasting. So, listening to cooks who have perfected the recipe over the years, we're making a slightly altered version.

Pound cake:
1 1/2 cups (180g) flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup (250g) butter
1 cup (200g) sugar
4 eggs
1/2 cup (120mL) sour cream or quark
1 tbsp vanilla extract or 3 tbsp vanilla sugar

Cream butter.

Add sugar and cream together.

Add eggs one at a time.

Add sour cream, vanilla, salt and baking powder. Slowly add flour.

Bake in a greased bread pan at 350°F or 180°C for 40-60 minutes.

Make sure to test with a knife in the middle. It should come out clean if it is done.
This cake tastes like vanilla and is a bit heavy, but very delicious.
It's perfect for a casual get-together.
