Dress up a Sheet Cake: Skittles Cake
This time in dressing up our sheet cake, we're tasting the rainbow by decorating with Skittles. You could also do a similar set up with M&M's. So fun and super easy.
The first thing you need is a lovely assistant! Just kidding. But my five-year-old helped me sort the colors of the Skittles. There are five colors: red, orange, yellow, green and purple.
Then you need a frosted sheet cake. You can frost it yourself, you can leave it in the pan and only frost the top or you can buy it frosted.
Next, we took the Skittles and pressed them onto the side of the cake around the bottom in rainbow order.
Sabrina did a great job sorting the Skittles.
Then, we pressed the same rainbow in a diagonal direction from the first rainbow.
We continued this pattern up the side of the cake.
The final row stuck out above the top of the cake slightly.
But isn't that beautiful?
Next, I made a flower in every corner. I placed a yellow Skittle first and surrounded them with a different color. I made a red flower, an orange flower and two purple flowers. I just felt like a green flower would look strange.
I added some green Skittles around the flowers to act as leaves.
Then I made four flowers between the first flowers, but this time with the Skittles standing up.
I added a single green Skittle next to the upright flowers. In the center, I made kind of a mandala effect. I put four green Skittles in the center, then surrounded them with red and orange alternating colors. Then a ring of yellow. The very outside was alternating red and purple Skittles standing up.
This was my design, but you can do any design you want on your Skittles cake. Rings of rainbow colors, stripes, squares, abstract, spell words, or make flowers and/or mandalas like I did.
There are so many possibilities on a cake like this.
It's very customizable.
And don't forget easy!
I mean, who doesn't love Skittles?
What a fun adaptation of a rainbow cake!
This is perfect for a child's birthday, a Skittle-lovers birthday, or a celebration of nearly any kind.
My girls loved picking off the Skittles.
